Natal, the capital of the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Norte, is located approximately 2,600 km north of Sao Paulo along the country’s northeastern coast. This city of 710,000 inhabitants is an increasingly popular destination for international investors and real estate developers. The spectacular location along the ocean and miles of undeveloped beaches to the north and south of the city make it the perfect destination for those looking to get to the area that is up and coming.
Natal and the areas around it are currently the target of over a billion dollars (US) in development. There are at least 10 golf courses under construction and dozens of new apartments, apartments and resorts are also under construction. The city and surrounding communities are a prime tourist destination for domestic travelers in Brazil. The area is marketed as an international tourist destination and the city is becoming more and more popular with foreigners.
The Rio Grande do Norte economy was focused on agriculture and cattle until the early 1980s, when the government began to invest heavily in the natural beauty and climate of the coast and the potential of tourism. Tourism is becoming a major economic engine with miles of undeveloped coastline attracting tourists, investors, retirees and workers. On the northwest coast, centered around the city of Macau, there is also a good deal of petrochemical development, leading to a diversified economy.

The climate along the coast is one of the main attractions for tourists and investors. The average annual temperature in Natal is around 27 degrees and the sun seems to shine almost every day. Much of the state is fairly dry, although the southern area from Natal to the border has a rainy season, April through June. It rains for a few hours but the sun still comes out almost every day.
The greatest development and real estate opportunities for both domestic and international investors are around the city of Natal. The coastline to the north and south of the city is where all major investments are under construction. With tropical scenery and pristine weather, this is the place to be.
